So Amy Winehouse and other current affairs.

As the twenty seven club gains a new member, I can’t help but despair over the fact that a great musician has passed today. And while the death of another has always had a profound effect on me, the death of Amy Winehouse has - in some way - touched me in the sense that it empowers me to reminisce about the coming future of iconic musicians who I’ve had the greater pleasure of listening to.

Of course while the immediate cause of Amy’s death is not yet known, years upon years of drug and alcohol abuse certainly did not do any favors for her immune system. And I sit here and I wonder about the likes of Slash and Peter Doherty, two (in)famous musicians who have a history of horrific run ins with narcotics. It is one thing to abuse substances - it is another to have a cherished friend fall death to them by your hands (and even still, it is something entirely different to play society’s outcast and scapegoat in the matter).

And while I’ll miss her contralto vocals before I’ll miss her as a human being, I can’t help but to canvas the notion that musicians and other iconic figures who I’m more fond of - who I actually care about - may be next on Death’s wish list; and it depresses me.

I cannot begin to fathom and comprehend the motions experienced by the victims of the Norway killings. The best form of condolence I can offer is the promise that I would never ever want to place myself in the position that the victims are in, I feel as if no amount of words, tweets, facebook pages, or reblogs can ever fuel a resurrection. And while I may be able to fathom the apparent human need to express to the victims that - no, I’ll stop there; I’m wrong. The perplexity and the pain being experienced by the victims of the Norway crisis is one that may forever remain in question, and my sympathy truly does go out to those affected.

Other stuff to come.
